What are the dangers of soft drinks?

What are the dangers of soft drinks? - With soft drinks cheap and widely available in so many varieties, it is no wonder why millions of people drink more than water. However, this poses dangers to the health of consumers because of the dubious nature of many of the ingredients used in these ultra-popular drinks.

What are the dangers of soft drinks?

Phosphoric acid

Phosphoric acid can deplete calcium in the bones and lead to osteoporosis, which is characterized by single bone fracture.

Sugar increases insulin levels in the blood, and high amounts in soft drinks can cause a host of medical problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease.

High Fructose Corn Syrup

Used as a sugar substitute in some soft drinks, high fructose corn syrup can be almost as harmful in large quantities and could cause damage to the liver in the same way that excessive alcohol use is.

Aspartame is another sugar substitute, usually used to sweeten diet sodas. However, aspartame fell out of favor because it has been shown to cause cancer in clinical trials.

Many soft drinks contain caffeine, which when consumed in large quantities can cause nervousness in the same way that drinking too much coffee can.

Fruit juice

You can substitute fruit juice soda if you can not face drinking more water. However, be careful, as some juice --- grape juice is an excellent example --- may contain even more sugar than sodas.
